Robert Alan Slater

Robert was a published Poet, and Professor at Maple Woods Community College, where he taught Creative Writing and English. He earned an MFA from The University of Iowa Writers’ Workshop. He was also awarded a Poetry Fellowship from the National Endowment of the Arts, and received a travel/study Fellowship to India from the United States Office of Education. He was an avid music lover, notably Blues, Reggae, and live music shows. Robert also enjoyed reading and was a collector of rare books. More than anything, he cherished family gatherings, and spending time with his grandchildren. He was known for his quick wit, infectious smile, and collecting vintage clothing, particularly Hawaiian shirts.

Robert is survived by his wife Maureen, his son Christopher (Kim), his stepdaughter, Kristen (Casey), as well as his former spouse, Laresa (Jack). He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Kalli. Six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive him.

His family will hold a small, private gathering in his honor.
