Obituary

Rodney “Rod” E. Wilson was born on May 2, 1959, in Kansas City, Kansas to the union of Edward and Mattie Wilson. He was the third of four children. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward Lee Wilson Sr and Mattie Jean Wilson.

Rodney Wilson received his education in the Kansas City, Missouri school system where he went on to graduate from Paseo High School. His work history consisted of driving forklifts for Dean’s Machinery in Kansas City, MO.

Rodney Wilson was raised in a Christian home, accepting Christ at an early age. He was then baptized at Trinity AME Methodist Church in Kansas City, Kansas.

Rod was a very fun loving person, known to many as “Uncle Rod.” He loved people, especially his nieces and nephews, as when they saw him, they would say “here comes Uncle Rod.” He was a very amusing jokester and would keep you laughing and anyone new coming into the family would receive a very intense 3rd degree lecture, to make sure they were a loyal fit with good meaning. Rod loved to play cards and dominoes in his pastime. In addition, he loved bowling in his teen and early adult life, participating in competitive leagues and tournaments; however, the most important thing to him was his mother and family.

Rodney’s prolonged hospitalization at KU Medical Center, prompted him on Friday, January 2, 2026, to go on and tell the doctors, “no more medications, no more dialysis, I am tired.” Thus, on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, the Lord called Rodney Wilson home to eternal rest.

Rodney Wilson leaves to cherish his memory: one sister, Monica Bull f Grandview, MO; two brothers, Edward Wilson, Jr. (Denise) of Lee’s Summit, MO and Kevin Wilson, Sr. (Carolyn) of Kansas City, MO; one daughter, Theresa Amrine-Lewis of Irvington, AL; two aunts, Shirley Douglas (Charles) and Claudette Briggs (Leonard) of Kansas City, KS; one uncle, Claude Baker (Lois) of Rockford, IL; ten (10) nephews, Montell Wilson, Sr. of Grandview, MO; Edward Wilson III (Megan) of Columbia, MO; William Wilson Sr., (Brandi), Jontez Wilson, DeAnthony Wilson, Kevin Wilson, Jr., and Mikey, Brian, Brandon, and Derrick Conn, all of Kansas City, MO; seven nieces, Chaunta Wilson, Alicia Robinson-Young, Sirhonda Wilson, Monea Wilson, Quiante Cannon, Ciara LaMaster, and Myla Taylor-Lopez; along with a number of great-nephews, great-nieces, a great-great niece, as well as other loving relatives.

A funeral will be held Friday, January 23, 2026 at Golden Gate Funeral & Cremation Services, LLC, 2800 E. 18th St. Kansas City, MO 64127. The visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m.; the service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Highland Park, 4101 State Ave, Kansas City, KS 66102.
