Ronald Phillip Lang (February 17th, 1945- September 28th, 2025)
Ronald Phillip Lang – one of a kind father of 2 children, 80 years old, who lived in Olathe, KS, died fighting his nearly two year-long battle with acute myeloid leukemia in Kansas City, MO on September 28th, 2025.
He was born in Toledo, Ohio on February 17th, 1945 to his adoptive mother Annabell Lang, whom he loved dearly. They moved to sunny California in his youth. Ron was educated at Reseda High School before majoring in Arts at Los Angeles Pierce College, going on to work at Deluxe Financial Services in 1963. He joined the Army in 1965 for active duty of two years and was honorably discharged in 1967. He followed with reserve service through 1971. He met his ex-wife, Kelly Hill, some years later when she started working at Deluxe as well. They married in 1988 and had 19 years together before they had an incredibly amicable divorce wherein they both relocated to Kansas, where Kelly had to move for work, to remain close to his youngest daughter, Kelsey, while Samantha stayed back in California to live with her then-boyfriend now-husband, Lucas, until they moved to Kansas as well in 2009.
Ron was a devoted and loving father to Samantha and Kelsey, who dearly miss him. They hold onto their memories with him and the life lessons he imparted to them. He was a good man in a storm and their first call whenever life got hard or they weren’t sure what to do in a given situation. He was a gentle soul who loved his dogs for as many years as he got to have with them – first, Molly (shih tzu) to the ripe old age of 14, then Jewels (miniature australian shepherd), who passed late 2024, and Chickee (teacup australian shepherd), his sweetest and most loving pup of them all. Chickee is now in Kelsey’s care and they’re thick as thieves! In his later years, he also became very fond of cooking and experimenting with his palette, which is a special thing to see in someone approaching 80 years old.
He took great pride in being a parent, especially in finding special ways to spend time together and build meaningful relationships – not just with his children, but with every friend he had. He loved both of his daughters so incredibly and without reservation. He used to check them out from school some days, just to have lunch and go to the movies. He was proud to see his oldest daughter, Samantha, grow her life with her own beautiful family (Lucas, Tyson, and Maya McLemore) and cherished the times they all shared together (most often getting lunches at Jimmy Johns, Mongolian BBQ, and Culver’s, were some of their favorites). He adored spending time with Kelsey too, they used to go to AMC every week to catch a new flick for years and years before Covid reared its ugly head and she worried too much about possibly getting him sick somehow. It never stopped him from living his life the way he wanted though and she admired him for that. He welcomed her home in 2022 and she stayed with him for his final years.
The family has not yet decided on a funeral service setting, but will update here when they do.
Ronald served in the US Army.
