Sachiko Kurusu Stanton

Sachiko Kurusu Stanton, from Yamaguchi, Japan, passed away in her sleep in Kansas City, MO on January 13, 2024, just weeks before her 85th birthday.  Sachiko was a streamstress working in Iwakuni, Japan when she met her ex-husband Ed, stationed at the Marine Corps Air Station.  They were married in Quartzsite, AZ in 1980 and lived in Blythe, CA and Kansas City, MO before they divorced in 1997.  Sachi was a devoted Nichiren Buddhist for almost 62 years who dedicated her life's mission to her Buddhist practice.  She worked at Sushi Gin Japanese Restaurant for many years.  She enjoyed meeting people and making new friends, wherever she went, whether it was taking classes at the YMCA, at her job, going shopping or in her neighborhood.  She also loved cooking traditional Japanese dishes and sharing with friends.  Sachi was also a loyal Chiefs fan.  She is survived by her older sister, nephew and relatives in Yamaguchi, Japan.  A private Buddhist memorial service is planned for February 25.
