Samantha De'Vera Abernathy

Samantha Abernathy was born on August 27, 1966, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Ruth and Jessie Abernathy. She was a proud graduate of Bishop Hogan High School, Class of 1984, and remained deeply connected to her roots in Kansas City throughout her life.

She transitioned peacefully on June 14, 2025, surrounded by love. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents and grandparents.

A creative soul with a playful spirit, Samantha found joy in life’s simple pleasures, especially coloring, a hobby she cherished into adulthood. She had a gift for making others smile and a personality that was both comforting and unforgettable.

Samantha was known for her goofiness, her kind heart, and the way she made others feel seen and loved. She had a unique way of bringing joy into any room and never failed to make people smile with her sense of humor and warmth.

She was the proud mother of two children, Essex Blackmon and Starrie Johnson, and a devoted sister to Edison Abernathy. Samantha leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Israel Blackmon and Kamilah Blackmon, who brought endless joy and love into her life, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.

Samantha’s legacy will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all who had the blessing of knowing her. Her memory is a light that continues to shine — a legacy of unconditional love, laughter, and strength.
