Terrence Noel Pledger, affectionately known as Tanny, was born on December 15, 1960. He was born in Kansas City, Kansas to Mae Ruth and Mathew Pledger. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Christ Church of the Jesus Hour. Tanny completed his education in the KCK school district and received certifications from Manpower Construction, where he began his journey as a “jack of all trades” carpenter. He then began his own home remodeling business — a reflection of his knack for fixing any and everything.
Tanny married the love of his life, Marcie, on September 5, 1998. Their union was blessed with one child, and together they raised four, building a family filled with love and laughter.
He was fun-loving, with a dry wit and an infectious smile that could light up any room. Though soft-spoken, he was never afraid to share his mind when it mattered. As a “self-appointed DJ,” he never shied away from blasting his Johnny “Guitar” Watson playlist at every family gathering. Everyone knew the cookout hadn’t truly started until Tanny arrived with his seasoned brisket and signature “Tanny Burgers.” His favorite pastime was playing dominoes with his crew—Dwight, Billy, Cedric, Shawn, Bobby, Peabody, and Robert Francis.
Tanny’s love for family ran deep, and gatherings will never be the same without him. We will dearly miss seeing him stroll around with his iconic thermos, always filled with what he called his “Black Pop.”
Tanny departed this life on October 6, 2025. His parents and his sister, Linda Pledger Moore, preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife, Marcie; his children—Tamara Jenkins (Shawn), Rishan Johnson (Glenn), Chiquita Mays, and Terrence Pledger II; his siblings—MattAnthony Pledger (Teresa), Gail Whitley (Dennis Sr.), Kimberly “Cedric” Pledger, and brother-in-law Bobby Moore; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
A funeral service will be held Saturday October 18, 2025 at Greater Pentecostal Temple, 864 Splitlog Ave, Kansas City, KS 66101 The visitation will begin at 10:00am, the service will follow at 11:00am.
