Verna Louise Knapp, 80, of Independence, MO, passed away peacefully at her home on June 10, 2026. Verna was born on December 6, 1945, in Johnson City, New York, and was raised on a dairy farm by her parents, Beatrice and A. Jack Knapp in Vestal, New York, alongside her older sister, Irene, and younger brother, Jack. Verna was known for her generosity, gift for storytelling, love for animals, and her unwavering faith in God. She dedicated her adult life to nursing and retired from the United States Postal Service in Kansas City, MO.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Beatrice Knapp and A. Jack Knapp, her sister, Irene Knapp, and her best friend and sister in Christ, Joan Wright. She is survived by her brother, A. Jack Knapp II, and sister-in-law, Diane Knapp, dear friend, Kemar Myers, as well as her beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and other extended family, friends, and long-time neighbors who will miss her deeply.

Verna had a special love for animals and never turned away a creature in need, whether it was a dog, cat, raccoon, or possum. She leaves behind her two beloved cats, Buddy and Lilly. She enjoyed watching the birds and always made sure her feeders were full, and found great satisfaction spending time with nature, especially when she could plant flowers in her yard. Blessed with an incredible memory, Verna shared special stories of her upbringing and family with such vivid detail that it had a way of making those around her feel they had lived the memories alongside her. She will be remembered for the kindness, generosity, and genuine care she showed to everyone around her.

In accordance with her wishes, no formal services will be held. Family and friends will honor her memory in their own ways, sharing stories and celebrating the many moments and memories that made her life so special.
