Wanda Joyce Brown, 94, was born on February 28, 1932 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Thomas J. Horne Sr. and Ruth Margaret Buffington Horne Brinson. She peacefully departed this life on Monday, May 12, 2026.

Wanda accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior, giving her family and friends a sense of peace, knowing she is now in a better place with our Lord and Savior. She would say that she’s lived a beautiful life and when her time came, she knew she would be ok.

Wanda graduated from Attucks High School in Ponca City, OK where she participated in the choir and cosmetology.

While living in Ponca City, OK, Wanda married Alfonzo Brown and to that union 5 children were born: Margaret, Alfonzo, Donald, Mark, and Diana. After living many years in Ponca City, OK, they decided to move the family to Kansas City, Missouri where they added 3 more children to the family, Reginald, Delwan and John. This is where she lived out the duration of her life. She was proud of her family and a very loving, protective and supportive mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, sister-in-law and friend. She loved her family deeply. If you said, “I love you” you could always count on her saying, “I love you more!”

Wanda worked approximately 10 years for the J.L. Pummial Company. After retirement she enjoyed her best life watching the court shows, the Price is Right, mystery shows, watching the neighborhood action from her porch with her family and friends and hanging out at the casinos. She was hard to keep up with in those casinos!

Wanda was preceded in death by: Thomas J Horne Sr. (father), Ruth Margaret Brinson (mother), Thomas J. Horne Jr. (brother), Alfonso Brown (son), John Earl Brown (son), Sandra Horne (niece), Wanda L. Brown (niece), Thomas D. Horne (nephew)

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughters; Margaret Brockman and Diana Jones (Marvin), her sons; Donald Brown (Cynthia), Mark Brown, Reginald Brown and Delwan Brown (Juanda), her grandchildren; Randy, Charmaine (Michael), Keona (Chanelle), Anthony James, Keith, Alfonso M., LaKoyia, Marissa, Destri, Antonio, Danielle, and Montez, her great-grandchildren; Kendel, Rickayia, Aniya, KJ, Chris, Jayden, Tayaunna, Trinity, Nova, Trevon, Antonio, Antwuan, Tre, Adena, and Keagan, her great-great grandchild; Amaryah, her sister-n-law; Jesse M. Horne, her nieces; Deborah Stringfield (Art), Deborah Horne, Donna Ratliff, her nephews; Lorenzo Horne, Albert Horne, her bonus sons; Steven Canady and Beverly Holliman, great nephews, great nieces, many other relatives, friends and of course Tony (her beloved dog).

Wanda Joyce Brown will be truly missed by all who knew her!
